This past week I had the opportunity to travel to Colorado for the 2017 Heritage Foundation Resource Bank national meeting. As usual it was a great event where we heard from some of our nation’s leading free market thinkers.
We had the opportunity to meet and hear from Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin, Radio talk show host Dennis Prager of Prager University, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich to name a few.
Gov. Bevin was one of this years favorite speakers by many. His message theme was “bold leadership” — sound familiar?? (See our 5th anniversary logo at the top if you haven’t made the connection yet.)
He spoke about the need for a new generation of leaders to step up and lead boldly. He recalled his decision whether or not to run for Governor and told himself and others, “someone ought to run that could help turn Kentucky around.” In the end he was convicted that at this time in Kentucky, the best “someone” was Matt Bevin.
He also shared about his initiative to reduce red tape in Kentucky. We are both sporting our Red Tape Reduction lapel pins in this photo.
A visit to Colorado wouldn’t be complete without visiting the Colorado State Treasurer’s office where I had the opportunity to see and meet with Colorado Treasurer and SFOF member Walker Stapleton. Treasurer Stapleton has been a champion for state pension reform and a watch dog on a number of other various state investment funds.
We have several people already registered and rooms booked for our 5th Anniversary Fall National Meeting in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, October 2-5. Many folks are booking vacations and personal travel on each side of our fall meeting to spend some time seeing the sights in this scenic part of our nation.
Negotiated room rates at the Coeur d’Alene Resort are $149 for the Park View Tower and $189 for Lake View Tower, plus tax, for the duration of the meeting as well as three nights prior to and three nights following our meeting. For room reservations call 800-688-5253 and ask for the State Financial Officers Foundation Fall Meeting room rate. (Financial officers and staff should book rooms directly with Derek.)
FYI – the Coeur d’Alene Hotel is now completely booked solid the weekend following our meeting! We currently have a small block of rooms at the Best Western Inn Plus Coeur d’Alene under the State Financial Officers Foundation. It’s a very nice Best Western and the rate is only $109.00 per night. Call for Best Western Reservations 208-765-3200.
